The History so far.
The following is extracted from “The First Fifty Years” a book written by the then Secretary to cover 1948 to 1998.

In July 1947 the late W. Bro. Bill Candy P.G.St.B. wrote to the late W. Bro. Bert Mills saying he thought there was a need in Penge for a new Lodge to meet on Saturday’s and that he felt sure it could be formed out of members of the Newlands Park Class of Instruction which met on Sunday Mornings and of which both he and W. Bro. Ellis were members. Newlands Park Class of Instruction was formed about 1907 by the late W. Bro’s. Goodwin. Watler and Butler, and used to meet in various hostelries until Avenue Hall came into being and became the the first tenants there, meeting on Sunday Mornings. It seems as it was the local Class of Instruction for members of several Lodges. All the founder members of Good Intent were members of Newlands Park C. of I.
In the early days of the Lodge a toast was given at the Festive Board before the Loyal Toast as follows: The W.M. would gavel and say “Brother Junior Warden, in this Lodge we wish to remember with gratitude and for all time, three Brethren. Will you name them?” The J.W. would reply “W. Bro’s Goodwin, Watler and Butler, Worshipful Master.” The W.M. would say “Brother Senior Warden. why do we wish to remember these Brethren?” The S.W. would reply “Because they Founded, more than 40 years ago, (now more than 90 years ago), the Class of Instruction from which the this Lodge sprang and of which all it’s Founders were members, Worshipful Master”.
The W.M. then addressed the Brethren:- Then Brethren of the Lodge of Good Intent, will you drink with me to the memory of Bro’s. Goodwin and Watler who have passed to the Grand Lodge above, and to W. Bro. Harry Butler who is happily still with us. (all drink).
The W.M. and Wardens remained seated during this little ceremony.
W. Bro. Harry Butler was elected Honorary Member of the Lodge at the Consecration Meeting, and whenever he was present at Lodge Meetings he would reply to this little toast. It is thought that this little ceremony ceased in 1953 when W. Bro. Butler passed to the Grand Lodge above.
